FOCUS ON CANCER

Focus on Cancer started with a question that was asked between two childhood friends: what can we do to really make a difference?

Angel Gustafson and Jennifer Murar-Maxon have been close friends since second grade. After having achieved huge success in their chosen careers and retiring early to raise children, both Angel and Jennifer decided to combine their knowledge, skills, and passion to create a non-profit that was unique and delivered results that would provide a lasting impact on cancer patients and their families.

First, they started by asking cancer patients and their families themselves about unmet needs, wishes, and goals to be achieved that could provide maximum impact.

Next, they created a large and diverse board of directors and advisory board that included experts from several different professional fields, as well as cancer patients and those who have lost loved ones to cancer.

In a few short years, the dedication of the members comprising Focus on Cancer has led the non-profit to achieve results beyond their set goals, with growth and achievements that continue to break boundaries .

Angel Gustafson

Starting at an early age, Angel has been extensively involved with many service and education groups to help make peoples' lives better and improve the safety of communities - including areas of domestic violence, child abuse, home invasion crime, elderly care, and providing to those in need. After transitioning to business development and marketing, Angel played an integral role in the development of new products, as well being a key driver in executing successful national and international market penetration and sales of these products. Armed with proven business and marketing experience, extensive past dedication to community service, an internal desire to continuously improve others’ lives, and a degree in communications with a minor in English, Angel is the perfect person to help guide Focus on Cancer as a leading non-profit for those affected with cancer.

Jennifer Murar-Maxon

Jennifer has a passion for both science and healthcare and has been fortunate in being given the opportunity to work in both fields. After studying molecular biology and working in a genetic engineering laboratory on cancer cells, Jennifer also became an RN and with a focus in oncology. She used the combination of both science and healthcare experience in oncology to start medical writing. Jennifer has remained current in the latest treatments and research in oncology to provide medical education to oncologists, oncology nurses and patients.  She has also written extensive published material for medical journals, abstracts presented at major medical conferences, and worked with key opinion leaders to provide strategic advice. Focus on Cancer provides the perfect venue for Jennifer to empower patients with knowledge about their disease.
